WHAT IS ARCHITECTURE AS A ?
As Architecture is an international network that promotes architecture in the world as a cultural resource for the public interest.
Following a path through the different cultures of the world, we explore uniformity and diversity within architecture, globalisation and tradition, the world and the country.
These focuses, only apparently in opposition, are subjects for possible future thoughts to analyse the complexity of the contemporary city and the relationship between built and natural landscape, including environment and inhabitants.
Our network compares with people of different cultures, experiences and origins; it consists of a heterogeneous group of students and academics, young professionals and established architects, small editorial entities and international magazines, websites and portals from different countries of the world.
In 2010 the network has become a cultural association to optimise relationships with public and private institutions and to promote discussions, symposia, seminars, conferences, workshops and continuing professional development, exhibitions and architectural competitions.
Such a program is associated with our activities on the Internet; we have been on Facebook since January 2009 managing a team of architects, all of them members of the A As Architecture - A Come Architettura group, which has now reached nearly 12,000 members from over 100 countries, with an increase of about 1000 new contacts per month. One small result which has given us the strength to undertake new activities such as a blog of architecture, its own channels both on Youtube and on Vimeo and also a space on Flickr to upload your photo archive.
HOW DOES A AS ARCHITECTURE WORK?
The network is characterised by an "open system" not only as a structure that is available to anyone who shares the spirit and willing to cooperate, but also in relation to programs and projects that may be changed according to the suggestions of the members, or promoted by people outside of the group. A As Architecture is made up of people who want it to grow using some of their own spare time to coordinate and guide the activities within one of our editing, with an approach to architecture as a process and not as an expression of style. A reading key also respectful of social, cultural and economic environment which a project is related to. This approach is different from what international magazines and several specialist websites propose, all too often just focused on one author without any in depth look into the environment and its impact.
Anyone wishing to collaborate shares voluntarily their experience and professionalism; at the moment about 30 people are involved in the communication, press office, promotion of events, secretarial activities, management of our group page on Facebook and of the architectural 'windows' of the countries, following the blog, the video production and our space on Flickr. We set up 3 different sections in 3 different languages (in English A As Architecture - A Come Architettura in Italian - A Como Arquitectura in English) to promote direct relations with members and help to promote a network of qualified partnership to coordinate common activities for the promotion of local and international architecture.
HOW TO COLLABORATE WITH A AS ARCHITECTURE
The main features of professionals are the ability to work in a team and the desire to engage in cultural activities.
Our simple requirements are:
1. sharing the goals of the Association;
2. having knowledge of written and spoken English or Italian (the official languages of the network);
3. being an architect, a journalist or having any other related degree (i.e. communication);
4. having a Skype account to participate to our meetings.

Anyone interested can collaborate in different ways :
a) participating in the conduction of an editing (English, Italian or English).
The editors deal with the management of our space on Facebook (English, Italian and English sections) or our web space (youtube, flick, twitter, friendfeed and our blog).
Currently several people are involved daily in the coordination of activities: managing friend requests, adding new friends, joining other groups and pages, participation to events, mail messages and notifications, all of this consists of 500 contacts per day.
b) Collaborating or managing a 'window'.
The windows are groups on Facebook for the deepening, through a detailed and classified information, of the architecture of a country (Australia, Morocco, Portugal, etc.). The main activity of the window is publishing discussions, notes, links, videos, photos regarding projects, architects and also articles and news coming from media such as magazines, websites, blogs, and other associations in that specific country. Every window also gives to its collaborators the opportunity to realise all other activities such as events, workshops and other which our association is involved directly in. For these reasons, managing a small window can also be an opportunity, especially economically speaking, for the work and effort carried out aimed to the realisation of events and other activities.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN A AS ARCHITECTURE ACTIVITIES?
One of the prerogatives of 'A As Architecture' is trying to become a "system", a pool of forces to coordinate joint programs with new potential partners.
You can participate to our activities if:
- you are a blogger;
- you are a director of an architectural website or a magazine (sharing yours or our news);
- you organise events (collaboration for the organisation of our events, conferences, etc.);
- you own a company of products and materials related to architecture (sharing your news with us).
Participating in our activities means being part of a network of partnership, creating new opportunities, efficiency and developing both your activities and our programs.
Also, we will be launching soon an international collaboration with other bloggers to share and publish articles in our blog and our web space, giving them full exposure to their blog for discussions about architecture.
We pay special attention to companies, associations and organisations that want to participate in occasional or regular basis in our activities (seminars, workshops and conferences) organised in Italy and worldwide.
We are about to promote an important event which will be held in Florence; we anticipate that there will be international guests and companies which we share common programs with.
We are not a network aimed at advertising or promoting businesses;
we only promote services, innovative products or tools which are innovative for the profession of architect or useful to improve the business related to architecture.
A As Architecture 's web puts together over 30,000 participants spread widely in many countries, divided among groups, Windows pages on Facebook and other web spaces, and soon a new website will be launched.
The network is growing with an average of 50 new members per day.
We are not just interested in quantity but in quality both of the participants and the activities.
Our association is based on these concepts and we welcome anyone seriously interested in taking part in common projects.
